CASE

Koivisto Auto’s Business Controller team had limited resources, which slowed down the development of reporting on contract profitability and risked the project timeline as well as a broader implementation.

SOLUTION

The situation was addressed by bringing in an experienced Interim Project Controller from NIS to the project, who ensured progress, introduced a clear structure to the work, and enabled a controlled expansion of the reporting model to other transport companies.

Contract profitability reporting implemented — from pilot to full-scale solution

In spring 2025, Koiviston Auto launched a project aimed at developing Power BI reports to monitor contract profitability across its transport companies. The pilot phase was carried out with one company, and the technical implementation was delivered by the external partner Loihde.

In autumn 2025, an Interim Project Controller from NIS joined the project to ensure adherence to the timeline and enable the expansion of reporting to additional transport companies. The work included reconciliation with accounting records, harmonisation of working methods across entities, definition of allocation principles, and development of exception rules. In addition, the report was validated together with the business, and the project included process documentation and internal training.

In one company, contract profitability was calculated separately in Excel, as data quality at that stage did not yet allow integration into the Power BI report. The success of the project required close collaboration between the operational teams of the transport companies, Finance, and ICT.

“The project was an excellent opportunity to combine data, processes, and operations in practice. Collaboration between different stakeholders enabled a reliable report for each transport company and created a strong foundation for continuous development and monitoring of contract profitability,” summarizes Henna Sirén from NIS.

The key elements of the reporting progressed according to plan: reliability improved significantly, working methods were harmonised, and processes and documentation were created to support implementation. The solution enables systematic monthly monitoring of contract profitability and supports business decision-making.

Marjo Tuovinen from Koiviston Auto comments on the collaboration:
“Henna has carried out her tasks very commendably. The project required a full-time commitment that our BC team did not have the resources for, and the timeline would not have been met without external support. Henna worked proactively with a wide network of contacts and completed the tasks diligently. She brought clarity, consistency, and reliability, which made the collaboration smooth and trustworthy.”
