At the end of the summer of 2022, Endomines Oy’s CFO Mikko Sopanen contacted NIS and requested support when their Business Controller went on study leave. The company needed a partner for its Group Controller—someone proficient in both external and internal accounting. The objective of the collaboration was to develop financial processes and provide support in several major projects.

Endomines Oy is a Finnish, modern mining company engaged in gold exploration and mining operations in Finland and the United States. Production is focused in Pampalo in Ilomantsi, while exploration is concentrated along the Karelian Gold Line in eastern Finland. “For us, it is important that our operations take into account our impact on the environment and people. Therefore, we increase the company’s value by developing our assets into economically profitable mines and by following the principles of sustainable mining,” says CEO Kari Vyhtinen.

The NIS consultant Henna Kettunen joined the finance team on short notice. The additional resources proved invaluable, as the company underwent significant changes during the assignment: a reverse merger was carried out, the company’s domicile was moved from Sweden to Finland, and the company was listed on NASDAQ Helsinki. Several finance-related development projects were completed in a short period of time, and contributing new perspectives as well as supporting the team through the transformation became a central part of the role.

“Henna thoroughly familiarized herself with her responsibilities and took initiative from the very beginning. The assignment was highly varied. She took ownership of parts of the projects and drove them forward with determination. Henna actively raised her perspectives on process improvements and proposed solutions, many of which were implemented. She also had prior experience with mergers, which was highly beneficial in this assignment. In addition to the development projects, she also handled day-to-day financial operations. Henna quickly became an important addition to the finance team during this period of change,” says Group Controller Heidi Salonaho.

The collaboration between Endomines and NIS worked very smoothly. The finance team and the mine’s employees received the support they needed during an intensive autumn. CEO Kari Vyhtinen felt that the consulting engagement delivered both tangible and comprehensive results:
